It is no more news that many Nigerians have left their bank accounts dormant for more than 6 years. Some have not made a single transaction in their account for many years.

The federal government has decided to make use of funds in the accounts of those that have left their account dormant for a period of 6 years.

Unclaimed dividends and bank account balances unattended to for at least six years will available as special credit to the federal government through the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund.

According to the Finance Act 2020 recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, the trust fund will be a sub-fund of the Crisis Intervention Fund.

Nevertheless, the news of the federal government plans to borrow money from dormant accounts led to various reactions from Nigerians.
